Chapter 1320
Sunny rubbed his head to ease the pain. "So are you going to tell me what happened to Jeremy?"
Lucas' expression became serious. "Don't ever bring up what Sophia said or anything about Jeremy once you go inside." The more Lucas tried to evade answering his question, the more Sunny thought he was trying to hide something from him.
'It looks like Lucas and Xante are both trying to hide something from Corinne, and it looks to be the same topic,' thought Sunny.
Corinne had finished her lunch and was sitting on the sofa, scrolling through her phone with a bored expression when the two brothers came in. "Hey, Corinne," called Lucas gently.
Corinne turned to look at him with surprise. "Why are you back so early, Mister Lucas?"
Lucas sat next to her. "Work isn't that busy, so I thought I'd come home to spend time with you," he said with a smile.
"Thanks, but I don't mind being alone."
Lucas was so used to getting the cold shoulder from Corinne that he did not even feel hurt anymore.
Corinne glanced at Sunny and asked boredly, "Is that woman gone?"
"Yeah," replied Sunny with a nod. "The servants had to drag her away."
"Did she say why she came to visit me?"
Lucas subtly gave him a warning look, so Sunny quickly shook his head and said sheepishly, "N... No. I think she was just bored and had nothing better to do than to kick up a fuss here."
Corinne thought so, too. After all, nothing good ever came out of meeting Sophia.
At that moment, she received a notification on her phone, saying that the money she wired to Jeremy had been refunded since the transaction timed out.
'Oh my god, why won't that stubborn man just accept the money?' thought Corinne with a frown.
She wired him the money again along with the message, [Just take this money so we're even!] Corinne waited for a while, but Jeremy did not accept her money nor did he reply to her.
Suddenly, she felt a tightness in her chest. It was an indescribable feeling that made her panic.
After thinking it over, she turned to ask Lucas, "Mister Lucas, do you know what Jeremy has been up to for the past two days?"
Lucas' expression suddenly hardened, but he forced himself to smile. "Why do you ask? I thought you didn't want to see him."noveldrama
Thinking that Corinne had caught up to them, Sunny started to panic too, even though he had no idea what was happening. "You're right. I don't want to see him, but I want to owe him money for the painting. I've been trying to wire him the money, but he wouldn't accept no matter what," said Corinne.
Lucas secretly heaved a sigh of relief when he heard that. "Just think of the painting as a gift if he doesn't want to accept your money. In any case, what he paid for the painting is like chump change to him."
Corinne frowned. "It doesn't matter if that money is chump change to him. I just don't want to owe him. We're not together anymore, so I don't want to accept any gifts from him."
Lucas looked complicatedly at Corinne's stubborn face before breaking out in a faint smile. "Okay, I'll ask someone to deliver a check to his office later. That way, you won't owe him anymore."
Corinne did not want to end up owing Lucas either, so she said, "Okay, I'll wire you the money now."
After that, she tapped on her phone to enter the details for the transfer.
Before she could complete the transaction, however, Lucas grabbed her phone and put it aside.
"You need to cut down on your screen time. All that radiation from the phone can't be good for the baby."
Corinne was speechless.
At that moment, Sunny was secretly texting Xante to ask her whether what Sophia said was true. The reply he received was in the affirmative.
